Summer, What Summer?

We are back! After finishing my spring semester and never expecting to ever write another academically graded blog again here we are. I did make myself an empty promise of saying I would blog over the summer. Working over 60 to 70 hours a week will really put a damper on summer plans.

My summer employment was still an amazing experience and opportunity. I worked for the Detroit Tigers as a park operations intern. Working in a sports venue that brings in thousands of people on a daily and nightly basis can best be described as controlled chaos. In park operations our job is somewhat self-explanatory. If it has to do with the park and or the operations of the facility, we are running it. The part that isn't explained is that park operations helps out in just about everything.
We are directly in charge of security, ushers, rides, guest experiences, guest services, as well as anything that takes place on the field before or after the game. We also are in charge of events that are not baseball games including fundraisers or fan events.

What really made this summer special wasn't the job itself. The people are what made it so memorable. Being able to work with people I will be able to call forever friends made this summer one of the best I have ever had. We truly were a little family which made the obnoxious rain delays as well as the obnoxious fans much easier to deal with.  My office being an MLB stadium wasn't bad either.

Considering that I will have to continue blogging throughout this semester. Readers should know that you will probably hear more about my stories from my time at the park in weeks to come.

5 Things to Do on Spring Break that Don't Require a Vacation

Spring break is the final big break of the school year. The time for college students to let loose one time before summer. While some students go to Florida. Others go to their respective home states. Doing anything to pass the time relaxing or keeping busy while at home on break.

1.Sleep
-Taking an absurd amount of time to sleep. The winter temperatures are known for inducing sleeping fatigue and being home with nothing too due can result in some crazy amounts of sleep.

2.Working
-College can be a stressful time in many ways. One being financially. Students can look to replenish their bank accounts by going back to work for the week. Some return to summer jobs or even look for small places looking for weekly cheap help. Anything will do.

3.Interviewing
-Summer jobs and internships are right around the corner. When picking places to travel for break it can be a perfect time to schedule the interview needed for that summer job. The freedom to travel to places needed and be available during the week gives a whole range of possibilities for the chosen profession.

4.Spending time with family
-Who needs to go to Florida with your college squad. Spring break can be an awesome time to hang with your family back home. Most times it has been weeks or months since you have seen your family spending a week in their presence can be relaxing and rejuvenating.

5.Seeing friends
-If by chance you are lucky enough to have your spring break match with your friends from home spring break becomes a great time to reconnect and spend time with the people you miss. The memories from high school are with the people who often got to see you grow most. Being back with them can be relaxing and and care free and be the best reminder of home there is.

No matter how students spend their breaks being away from campus and the classroom is always good. For students to take a break from the stresses that college brings. Being able to take time to do as they please can help with the final push towards summer.

Winter Days Make us SAD?

Image result for seasons

Everyone has their favorite season. For some it may be the sunny days of summer. Others could enjoy the blooming of spring. Many love the leaves of fall. I have even heard that some love the snow of winter. Personally I will always be a summer person as I feel there is no replacement for the feeling of the sun on your skin and heat in the air.

As I have attempted to adjust to the midwest and its seasonal changes. I looked into the impact that the seasons actually have on people's health. I was surprised to learn that each season actually has an impact on the human body.
Summer is actually known to have effects on people's decision making and thought process. Extreme lasting heat can cause mental well-being to deteriorate. Warm weather also has the ability to decrease air quality making it more difficult breath. Heat waves throughout the summer are actually the deadliest extreme weather known to man causing more death than hurricanes, lightning, tornados, earthquakes, and floods.

Fall  tends to have positive effects on people's minds and health. Memory is known to improve in the autumn months. Sleep becomes more prevalent. The leaves changing is not all positive though. People have documented an increase in anxiety in the months of October and November. Illnesses are also expected to begin to sprout up during the fall months.

Spring  an increase in temperature has a positive effect on people's attitudes. The body gets more vitamin D as the sun is in the sky longer. Energy is at a high as "spring fever" hits with people doing more and being outside more.

Winter makes people SAD seasonal affective disorder is most visible in the winter months. SAD comes with increased appetite, loss of interest, sense of hopelessness, social withdrawal. Winter also dries out the air in turn drying out eyes and skin. The cold months can trigger migraines. December, January, and February are also known to increase people's appetites as people are drawn to "comfort foods".

No matter your season. Each have their own effects on your health. Next time you think about the weather you enjoy dive deeper. Why?
